I wish to share my love of image-making with people, hoping to make a connection with those who recognize something of the texture of their own lives in what they see here.

Many thanks to the S.P.A.C.E. team, superbly managed by Ursula Sommerer, and appreciation to Rhonda Meier, gallery administrator. Pictured is the exhibit poster designed by Andy Di Leo. My work joins those of other participants in this show and in the exhibition catalogue.

Event: Group exhibition

Time: August 7 to 31, 2018

Space: John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto

The realization of this exhibition project is thanks to the indefatigable Natalie Olanick, Andres Manniste designed the accompanying publication. Speakers and panel participants include Andréa Cole, Lynn Millete, Barbara Gilbert, Catherine Heard, and Scott Waters. Pictured is the charcoal drawing Outsider, 2018, charcoal on paper, 48 5/8" x 28 1/8" including frame.

In preparation for the drawing Outsider, traditional sketching with graphite and a few colour pencils are used to work out the composition and particularities of linear perspective. Typographic elements are worked out digitally, and shading is achieved through both traditional and digital media. I created the original “water drop” wall paper pattern to resemble wall paper design of the 1940s, and skewed it digitally to map it on to a slice of wall to be seen in perspective in the final drawing. These sketches enabled the creation of Outsider, a charcoal drawing scheduled to be exhibited in Toronto next month in the Uncommon exhibition.
